Mat Pilates is a strengthening and lengthening sequence of movements that focuses on your core muscles while also toning your arms and legs. The Mat Work came before any of the Pilates Apparatus (equipment) Joseph Pilates developed. It includes over 500 exercises and can be practiced anywhere. Mat Pilates can be modified for any age or fitness level and is a wonderful complement to any yoga practice. Attention to breath and body provide a focused, fun, and well-rounded mat exploration!
In this introductory class, you will learn the basics of a mat practice as well some of the most popular movements that will create a foundation of learning Options for more or less intensity will be provided. And you guessed it, all you need is yourself and the mat!
We are incredibly excited to welcome Marni Parker to our studio for this special offering. Since her certification through Lolita’s Legacy in 2014, Marni has had a strong commitment to sharing the vast benefits of Pilates. Her first introduction to the method was in 2001 as a high school student to supplement her dance curriculum. She was immediately drawn to the sense of awareness and alignment that Pilates provided her dance career as well as her everyday life, and it has since become an integral part of her wellbeing. What she loves most about teaching Pilates is helping clients reach their individual goals by focusing on the integration of mind, body, and spirit to achieve happier and healthier lifestyles. She is a true believer that movement, in all its forms, has healing properties that translate inward.
A sense of adventure brought Marni to Jamestown, Rhode Island with her family in the spring of 2021, and when she’s not teaching or practicing Pilates, she loves to cook, travel, read, practice yoga and spend time outdoors with her husband Oliver and their one-year-old son, Charlie.
