Mat Pilates 101 w/Marni Parker

Mat Pilates is a strengthening and lengthening sequence of movements that focuses on your core muscles while also toning your arms and legs. The Mat Work came before any of the Pilates Apparatus (equipment) Joseph Pilates developed. It includes over 500 exercises and can be practiced anywhere. Mat Pilates can be modified for any age or fitness level and is a wonderful complement to any yoga practice. Attention to breath and body provide a focused, fun, and well-rounded mat exploration!

In this introductory class, you will learn the basics of a mat practice as well some of the most popular movements that will create a foundation of learning Options for more or less intensity will be provided. And you guessed it, all you need is yourself and the mat!

We are incredibly excited to welcome Marni Parker to our studio for this special offering. Since her certification through Lolita’s Legacy in 2014, Marni has had a strong commitment to sharing the vast benefits of Pilates. Her first introduction to the method was in 2001 as a high school student to supplement her dance curriculum. She was immediately drawn to the sense of awareness and alignment that Pilates provided her dance career as well as her everyday life, and it has since become an integral part of her wellbeing. What she loves most about teaching Pilates is helping clients reach their individual goals by focusing on the integration of mind, body, and spirit to achieve happier and healthier lifestyles. She is a true believer that movement, in all its forms, has healing properties that translate inward.

A sense of adventure brought Marni to Jamestown, Rhode Island with her family in the spring of 2021, and when she’s not teaching or practicing Pilates, she loves to cook, travel, read, practice yoga and spend time outdoors with her husband Oliver and their one-year-old son, Charlie.

ALIGN | LIFT | SUPPORT | : Practice with Props

Bolsters, blocks, straps, blankets - Maybe you've carried all of these props to your mat but aren't sure when to use what. Maybe you're a teacher who invited students to use a prop in a pose, but wasn't exactly sure how.

The use of props can assist our practice in 3 main ways:

1. Align – Explore safer physical alignment in postures

2. Lift – experience more openness and buoyancy in your body

3. Support – feel more easeful and relaxed so you can breathe clearly

This workshop series will explore each of these concepts over 3 classes. Whether you are a student looking to effortlessly incorporate props into your practice or a teacher looking to weave props into your sequencing, this series is for you.

Mobility Series with Jenna Zabrosky

This workshop will focus on mobility, or actively taking our muscles and joints into their range of motion. You will be guided through a series of yoga mobility routines, which you will take home, that can be incorporated into your daily practice.

Why is this important? Yoga mobility exercises can help you to strengthen as you create greater range of motion. This can help with injury prevention, as well as recovery. The goal is for yoga to be a lifelong practice, so rather than striving to always go deeper into poses, let's strive to create strength. This workshop is suitable for all levels.
